City, Crown and Ngati Whatua to sign reserve management plan
The Minister of Conservation, Hon Chris Carter MP, chairperson of the Ngati Whatua o Orakei Reserves Board, Sir Hugh Kawharu, and deputy chairperson Auckland City Councillor Juliet Yates will sign the Whenua Rangatira Reserve Management Plan on Thursday, 29 June 2003.
The Orakei Act 1991 required a management plan be prepared for Takaparawharawhara, which is the Whenua Rangatira or 49 hectares of Maori Reserve land lying on the harbour edge and between Paritai Drive and Mission Bay. The plan also includes the Okahu Bay Reserve and all the land previously known as Bastion Point.
Ngati Whatua o Orakei and Auckland City Council jointly administer Whenua Rangatira through the Ngati Whatua o Orakei Reserves Board.
The plan will provide for the management of the Whenua Rangatira in a comprehensive and consistent manner, whilst recognising and providing for the mana of the Ngati Whatua o Orakei Reserves Board.
The Minister of Conservation will be signing the
plan in accordance with the provisions of the Reserves Act.
