Heading north this weekend? Save time
Aucklanders getting out of the city and heading north this Waitangi weekend are again encouraged by Transit New Zealand to take the alternative route, State Highway 16, rather than State Highway 1.
Motorists who used State Highway 16 over the recent Auckland Anniversary weekend saved time and avoided delays on State Highway 1 between Orewa and Warkworth.
Transit will again be signposting the route in both directions as well as giving motorists advance warnings of heavy traffic and delays ahead.
SH16 can be easily reached by travelling to the end of the Northwestern Motorway and then through Kumeu and Helensville to Wellsford. Alternatively, it can be reached from SH1 via the Silverdale off-ramp, then SH17 and Kahikatea Flat Road.
More information for motorists and a map showing the
alternative route is available at www.transit.govt.nz.
Motorists can also call 0800 73 73 25 for more information.
