General Aerial Operation On Today – Wednesday, 18 February 2004

The scheduled general aerial operation, against painted apple moth, is ON today - Wednesday, 18 February 2004.

Today’s general aerial operation, using two small aircraft, will take place in the 5 high-risk areas - Hobsonville, Waikumete Cemetery, Motions/Meola Creek, Ranui/Swanson & Riverpark – to treat a total area of less than a 1,000 hectares.

Even though the aircraft may be in the air there will be NO treatment between 8am and 9am as children travel to school.

As a guide, given continued favourable weather and the completion of an operation in a single day, then it is highly likely that: Hobsonville and Riverpark will be treated first starting at approximately 6.25am Motions/Meola Creek then Waikumete Cemetery then Ranui/Swanson will follow Treatment in the Riverpark and Ranui/Swanson helicopter areas will start before 8.00am and resume at 9.00am after the school break All treatments are expected to finish by mid morning.

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
