Rates Rebellion Promises To Reset Rates After
Election
Speaking to an audience of 150 ratepayers and residents in Orewa this afternoon, Rebellion spokesman David Thornton, responding to a question, said RatesRebellion would be fielding candidates at the Auckland Regional Council elections in October.
If enough RatesRebellion candidates were elected, and if the ARC kept its present rating policies, David Thornton promised that;-
"RatesRebellion councillors would reset the rates to bring back a fair and equitable rating system for all ratepayers - residential, business and rural"
Mr Thornton told his audience, "Last year the ARC, in response to the Rates Rebellion campaign, said it could not reset the rates unless there was a significant change of circumstances. A RatesRebellion victory at the polls would be a significant change of circumstances and would allow us to reset rates as permitted in the legislation"
The next RatesRebellion
meeting will be on 18th April in Glenfield.
