Media Advisory- Anzac Day
No doubt you are scheduling ANZAC Day coverage, and we thought you might like to know about a candle-lit Dawn Service being held at Waikumete Cemetery.
This is the largest war graves cemetery in NZ, where the vast majority of veterans and those who died in the both WW1 and WW2 are buried (some 10,000 individual plots). Memorials include those of several Victoria Cross winners.
Surrounding the main cenotaph, rows of soldiers’ headstones will be individually lit, and those at the ceremony will each be given a candle- offering some excellent opportunities as far as pictures go.
Last year’s Dawn Service attracted around 3000 people.
“Fall In” is at 5.45am at the War Memorial cenotaph (corner Glen View and Great North Rds, Kelston) after which several hundred veterans from West Auckland’s 10 RSA’ will march.
