CMJ TRAFFIC BULLETIN: SATURDAY 3 JULY UNTIL THURSDAY 8 JULY

Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.

CMJ Stage 1
Full motorway closures:
Monday 5 July - CLOSED - early morning from 12 midnight until 4am:
-All northbound lanes on the Southern Motorway over the Khyber Pass Viaduct.
Detour: for northbound traffic - off at Khyber Pass off-ramp and on at Wellington St on-ramp.

Tuesday 6 July - CLOSED - from 12 midnight until 4am.
- All northbound lanes on the Southern Motorway over the Khyber Pass Viaduct.
Detour: for northbound traffic - off at Khyber Pass off-ramp and on at Wellington St on-ramp.

Contingency closure for full motorway closure above:
Wednesday 7 July - CLOSED - from 12 midnight until 4am.
NB - the contingency closure will occur on one of the specified dates in the event of unforeseen circumstances or wet weather.

Ramp and link closures:
Sunday 4 July - CLOSED - during the day and overnight from 7am to 6am the following morning:
-Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)

Sunday 4 July - CLOSED - at night from 8pm to 12midnight:
-Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound)

Sunday 4 July - CLOSED - overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
-Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
-Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound)

Local road closures:
Sunday 3 July to Thursday 8 July - CLOSED - overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:

Either Boston Rd or Khyber Pass Rd near the motorway ramps

Ongoing motorway lane closures:

-North and southbound lanes on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and the Symonds St overbridge - closures at night from 8pm until further notice.

Please choose alternative routes during these closures. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.

The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit's Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.

Stage 2 of Transit's Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Wellington St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
