RAM to join port picket against casualisation
"The RAM Executive supports the right of longterm casual port staff to permanent employment by the Ports of Auckland," said Grant Morgan, spokesperson for RAM - Residents Action Movement.
"Since central government has passed political control of Ports of Auckland to the Auckland Regional Council, port casualisation is an issue for all ARC election contestants."
Maritime Union members at the Ports of Auckland begin a 4-day strike tomorrow (Wednesday) against management's hardline refusal to give permanent jobs to longterm casual workers.
"A RAM contingent, including several RAM candidates in the ARC election, will be joining the union picket tomorrow in a show of support," said Grant Morgan.
"We will be joined by RAMbo - a Ram with a Bowtie. RAMbo is RAM's mascot in the ARC election."
DETAILS OF RAM VISIT TO PICKET
WHEN - 3pm tomorrow (Wednesday 8 September).
WHERE - Outside Bledisloe Terminal, Tinley St (off Quay St by Shell Service Station).
