CMJ Traffic Bulletin: Saturday 11 September Until Thursday 16 September

Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for ongoing work as part of the Central Motorway Junction upgrade project.

Gillies Ave on-ramp and Khyber Pass off-ramp closed over the weekend

Transit New Zealand advises motorists that the Gillies Ave on-ramp and Khyber Pass off-ramp will be closed from 12am Saturday 11th September until 9am Sunday 12th September.

The left lane of the Southern Motorway (SH1), between the Gillies Ave on-ramp and the Symonds Street off-ramp, will also be closed during the day on Saturday, from 1am until 6am Sunday.

Sections of Boston Road and Khyber Pass Road near the motorway ramps will be closed for periods over the weekend.

Wet weather will postpone changes until Sunday 12th September. Detour routes will be clearly signposted.

Ongoing motorway lane closures: There will be ongoing north and southbound lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and the Symonds Street overbridge from Sunday through to Thursday nights until 2005.

Please choose alternative routes during these closures. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.

The CMJ Project Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack

Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
