Chch City Libraries wins inaugural Maori Language Week award
Christchurch City Libraries has won the local body section of the inaugural Maori Language Week awards and was runner-up in the supreme award.
Christchurch City Libraries has a strong commitment to Te Reo Maori. Recent initiatives have included bilingual customer signage (a New Zealand libraries first), outreach programmes and events held during Maori New Year (Matariki) and Maori Language Week.
The awards - organised by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Mâori (the Maori Language Commission), Te Puni Kôkiri and the Human Rights Commission – were created to celebrate and recognise efforts to promote Maori language. They were presented in Wellington last night.
