Part of SH17 passing lane closed north of Durey
Road
Transit New Zealand has closed the first 200
metres of a passing lane on State Highway 17 north of Durey
Road in Dairy Flat, Auckland. The passing lane will be
closed for approximately two months while essential repairs
are undertaken. The rest of the passing lane (approximately
1.5km) will operate as normal.
Transit Regional
Manager Wayne McDonald says the passing lane has been closed
temporarily so vital repairs can be made to the lanes, which
are suffering from subsidence.
"We have done this as
a safety precaution while we complete repairs. This area is
known to suffer from localised areas of subsidence and is
being monitored by our consultants.”

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
