Christchurch saddling up for annual Park to Pier bike ride

More than 800 cyclists have registered to go on the Christchurch City Council’s free annual Park to Pier family bike ride this Sunday, starting from the Armagh Street bridge at 10am and finishing at New Brighton Pier.

To date, just over 800 registrations have been received for the Park to Pier ride, which is New Zealand’s largest non-competitive cycling event for people of all ages and their families.

Christchurch remains one of the best places in New Zealand to bike and the annual Park to Pier ride showcases the range of cycle facilities the Christchurch City Council provides for cyclists across the city.

The 15km Park to Pier ride will take families along some of the city’s most scenic cycle routes, meandering along the banks of the Avon, finishing at one of the most popular beaches where there will be sausage sizzles and family entertainment.

Taken at a leisurely pace, the ride should take families with children about an hour and a half to complete. A rest stop area has been set up at Porritt Park off Avonside Drive.

So pack your picnics, put on your helmets and join us at the Armagh Street bridge at 9am on Sunday.

If the weather is not looking good on the morning of the even, listen to The Breeze 94.5FM for a postponement notice about 7.30am. If postponed, Park to Pier will take place on Sunday, 28 November, with cyclists to meet at same time and place.
