New lane to open on Southern Motorway
Transit New Zealand advises that a new southbound lane will open on the Southern Motorway (SH1) between the Hobson St and Grafton on-ramps at 6am on Monday 13 December. Wet weather may postpone changes until the next clear morning.
This will allow traffic from the North Shore to continue with less disruption on the present lanes. Traffic from the Northwestern Motorway will also have direct entry to the fourth lane adjacent to the median in the Central Motorway Junction.
The new lane configuration will mean that motorists entering the motorway at the Hobson St on-ramp will enter into a dedicated lane. This new lane will link to the southbound lanes recently opened between Grafton Rd and Gillies Ave and is part of the continuing upgrade of the Central Motorway Junction.
The new dedicated lane will reduce queuing on the Hobson Street on-ramp and disruption to SH1 southbound traffic and will also increase the operational safety of this section of motorway.
Advance warning signs will be erected the morning of the changes, and motorists are asked to drive with caution. The change will be advertised in the New Zealand Herald.
Transit thanks motorists in advance for their cooperation.
