Muritai Training Centre
The West Coast Development Trust has approved a $24,700 grant to the Muritai Training Centre.
The Centre offers a range of courses in tourism and travel, retail, community caregiving and a certificate in childcare. These courses target marginalised groups and are designed to develop the necessary skills to gain employment and contribute to the local community. Approximately 60 students were enrolled at the Muritai Training Centre during 2004.
The grant will be used to purchase DVD and computer equipment, and a vehicle to transport participants to the courses, many of whom live outside of the immediate Greymouth area.
“Trustees were pleased to provide support for this education service provider, with a view to contributing to their long term sustainability,” says Development Trust chairman, Frank Dooley.
“The Muritai Training Centre also receives funding from Skills New Zealand, TOPNZ and Skills New Zealand Youth to cover the day-to-day operation of these courses, however enhanced computer and audio visual equipment will significantly improved the quality of the courses delivered.”
“This grant is in line with one of The Development Trust’s high level objectives – to enhance and further the education of people on the West Coast.”
