Truckers Aren't The Bad Guys On Killer Road

Press release from National Road Carriers

TRUCKERS AREN'T THE BAD GUYS ON KILLER ROAD

National Road Carriers (INC) Executive Director Bruce Reid says their members that travel the countries deadliest stretch of State Highway through Maramarua are sick and tired of car drivers demonstrating poor or inappropriate driving behaviour.

Trucks make up 20% of the vehicles that travel SH 2 and are continually put at risk by the actions of less professional drivers and a road that is unforgiving of the slightest misjudgment.

"Our members report that every trip they see car drivers doing stupid things, passing where it not safe to do so, cutting in front of them and generally having no regard for other road users".

Mr Reid has this message for all drivers, "Keep to the appropriate speed for the conditions and think of the other drivers".

Until the road is upgraded to meet the increased traffic flows all drivers must adjust their driving behavior.

"Improving SH2 to make it safer can't happen soon enough. This is another example of a problem where the solution is known however the lack of action rectifying the problem means more of our members will experience the horror of serious road crashes on this notorious stretch of road."

All drivers need to take responsibility but the solution lies with Transit and Central Government to act with urgency and fix a fixable problem.
