Tactical Training over the Central North Island

Up to seven Iroquois helicopters will be conducting tactical flying operations in the Central North Island as part of Exercise Steel Talon.

The exercise will run from 21 November - 2 December and involve 160 personnel from the Air Force’s No. 3 Squadron.

During Steel Talon the pilots will exercise flying in formation in a hostile environment. It will also provide experience for door gunners and helicopter crewmen.

The first week of Ex Steel Talon will be run from RNZAF Base Ohakea, with the helicopters taking part in the NZ Army Exercise, Silver Warrior.

The second week will see the Squadron operate from a tented camp near Rangitaiki Airfield, with the helicopters flying as far north as Tauranga and east to Napier.
