Councils deploy small Civil
Defence team to help out in Ashburton
Rescue Response
Teams from Christchurch City Council, Waimakariri District
Council and the Canterbury Civil Defence Group, this morning
departed for Ashburton following a request for assistance
from the Ashburton District Council.
The teams will help
deliver food to those people unable to get out of their
homes due to recent snowfalls, as well as endeavouring to
get in touch with households that have yet to be contacted
due to the snow and a lack of power and phones.
Team
members will form teams of two, each with a 4WD
vehicle.

It remains to be seen if announcements today will better protect children, but the National Government is forgoing an opportunity to really help kids by ignoring the elephant in the room, which is poverty, Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei says.
