New ‘Service’ category for AIMES awards

October 26, 2006

The contribution by young people to the North Shore community is being recognised at the prestigious AIMES Awards for the first time this year.

Organised by the North Harbour Club, AIMES recognise young achievers in five categories: Arts; Information technology & science; Music; Education; and Sport.

The category of Service to the Community will debut tomorrow night [October 27] when North Shore City Mayor George Wood and Club President Peter Wall will co-present the award at the event held at Takapuna’s Bruce Mason Centre.

North Shore City Deputy Mayor Dianne Hale is the council’s official youth advocate and a tireless supporter of youth initiatives.

Councillor Hale is delighted that the North Harbour Club now recognises young people for their selfless public service.

Fellow councillor and deputy chairman of the city’s community services and parks committee, Peter White, agrees.

“North Shore City Council is right behind AIMES and this new award in particular,” he says.

“It is timely to celebrate the outstanding contribution by our community’s young achievers,” Councillor White says.

AIMES has invested $650,000 in the region’s rising stars since 1995 including $100,000 this year. Past winners are exceptional achievers either at a regional, national or international level.

The North Harbour Club comprises leaders from the business, sporting and academic sectors, including people elected to represent your local community. More information on AIMES can be obtained from www.northharbourclub.co.nz
