At 1.30pm today Manurewa Police were called to a violent domestic incident involving a male with a hammer. The male was reported to be smashing windows at a Manurewa address having kicked and punched the female occupant. A 14 year old male who was at the address during the assault, intervened in the assault, allowing the female and youth to both flee the address to raise the alarm.
Police arrived shortly after, to find the house fully engulfed in flames. Fire officers pulled one unconscious male occupant from the premises. This person has been taken to hospital following smoke inhalation.
A 29 year old male is assisting police with their enquiries.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.
