Project Crimson Funding Round Closes 1 March

Project Crimson Funding Round Closes 1 March

The Project Crimson Trust's 2007 Funding Round will close on 1 March this year, which will kick off a new round of pohutukawa and rata protection work around New Zealand, while continuing to support ongoing projects.

The Trust was established in 1990 following research which showed that over 70% of the original stands of pohutukawa had been destroyed around coastal New Zealand. Since then, the Trust has worked with community groups and individuals to address the issue, providing funds and trees to thousands of volunteers in communities from the Far North to Stewart Island.

Community groups or individuals interested in protecting or enhancing sites where pohutukawa and/or rata are present or were present and some time, can apply for funds to cover the cost of trees, research, nursery materials, fencing equipment, weed and pest control, signage and interpretation panels and other materials.

"Applicants must be able to demonstrate some sort of restoration or re-vegetation plan where pohutukawa and rata are a feature" says Bridget Abernethy, Executive Director of the Trust. "No project is too big or too small, and people may apply from anywhere in New Zealand."

"Private landowners may also apply where they can demonstrate some public value to their conservation work."

Application forms can be downloaded from www.projectcrimson.org.nz or phone 0800 POHUTUKAWA (0800 764 888) for more information.
