A woman climber who died in Mt Cook National Park yesterday evening has been named.

She was Nina Lynne CREEDMAN aged 29, a US national who had been living and working in Wellington for the last two years.

She was climbing with three other members of the NZ Alpine Club, Wellington, descending after a successful ascent of Mt Sealy.

A rock fall occurred above them and she was struck by falling rocks, receiving fatal injuries. Two members of the group administered CPR while they waited for the rescue helicopter. Another group climbing near them went back to the summit to use a cell phone and called 111 for help.

Mt Cook Aorangi DOC/ SAR rescue team reached the scene but Ms Creedman was already dead.

Two of her climbing companions were lifted off by helicopter while the third person was due to walk out today.

Helicopter Line Mt Cook and Westpac Rescue Helicopter attended.

Constable Carl Pedersen, Twizel Police says that the weather conditions have been very good in the Mt Cook area these last few days.
