Change Of Command Ceremony For Navy Ship

A ceremony to mark the official change of Commanding Officer for the Navy In-Shore Patrol Craft HMNZS KAHU will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday 18 April at the Devonport Naval Base.

The Change of Command Ceremony is traditionally formal and impressive – designed to strengthen the respect for authority, which is vital to any military organisation. During the ceremony Lieutenant Jonathon Clarkson will relinquish command of HMNZS KAHU and Lieutenant Iain Bradley will assume command.


Deputy Chief of Navy, Commodore Tony Parr, will review the ceremony.

Background

HMNZS KAHU (A04) is attached to the Royal New Zealand Naval College as the basic seamanship and navigation training vessel.

KAHU is similar in hull form to the two inshore survey and inshore patrol craft. She was built by the same shipbuilding firm (Whangarei Engineering Company) and launched in 1978.
