Books Without Borders

Books Without Borders

Kit and Evie Davis, are two of the children from Northland who have responded to the Books Without Borders 2007 invitation to share books with students in the developing world. Don Cameron the skipper who built "The Scotsman" back in the 1980s has committed himself to delivery one tonne of books annually. Previously he has been able to take gifts from New Zealand schools, libraries and individuals to the Solomons and to Vanuatu. In May he departs for Savusavu Bay in Fiji where a school is being built year by year and magazines, books, and educational materials are all welcome in the hold of his vessel.

Any contributions can be delivered to the container at Dockland 5, 211 Port Road, Whangarei.

Evie and Kit Davis from Oturu Primary near Kaitaia spent the holidays collecting National Geographics, culling their bookshelves, and scouring op shops for titles that would be meaningful to their peers in the Pacific. "If I don't want to read it, they won't want to read it," said Evie. Kit was sure to put in plenty of books on dinosaurs and animals that will appeal to other young fans of natural sciences.
