Road warning signs damaged – Transit urges extra care

Transit New Zealand is urging motorists to take extra care when travelling in the Coromandel because high winds have damaged a number of road warning signs and there is still debris on the road.

Transit area engineer Alan Burkett said Transit's contractors were working hard to repair or replace the warning signs, such as speed advisory signs or those that alerted motorists to windy or icy stretches of road. In the meantime, motorists should pay extra attention to the road and watch for potential hazards.

Mr Burkett said all state highways in the Coromandel had at least one lane open, but road workers were still clearing trees and other debris at a number of locations.

"There are a number of contractors working on or near the road so we ask that motorists watch out for the crews and keep their speeds down when driving past."
