NEWS RELEASE

Celebrate 11 years of Wellington dance in September

Wellington City Council’s Dance Your Socks Off! Festival is back this spring with a full programme of performances and workshops.

Get a free preview of what’s on during the festival at the Reading Courtenay Dance Festival on the ground floor of Reading Courtenay on Monday 3 September from 4.30-9pm. There will be a variety of community performances from Cuban Fusion, Orleta Polish Dance Group and the Java Dance Company.

Council Community Recreation Programmer Leanne Parsons says there is something for everyone at this year’s festival. “There are many free events and workshops and the entire programme, now in its 11th year, showcases all kinds of professional and emerging dance from all over the world.”

Check out Dance Ceroc with the Stars, an exciting event that builds on the community’s enthusiasm to promote dancing and raise money for charity. Six celebrities, including Mayor Kerry Prendergast will learn how to dance Ceroc before competing at a public event at the Town Hall on Friday 12 October.

Other Dance Your Socks Off! Festival features include the Roller Disco at Kilbirnie Recreation Centre on Saturday 8 September. Renowned Wellington DJ Liam Luff will crank up classic tunes at a family disco (children up to 14 years of age) from 5–7pm, followed by the Roller Disco from 8–11pm, which has an age restriction of 15 years and up. Don’t miss the BATS Theatre season, running from 4-23 September, showcasing Wellington’s finest contemporary dance and dance theatre, including FootBallistic, an explosive show set during a football riot and the Real Hot Bitches Around the World in 80s Outfits, - an International Dance Odyssey.
