MEDIA RELEASE

Cheer on the final four

Aucklanders are being urged to adopt a team to support as the Rugby World Cup 2007 reaches semi finals time.

Rugby fever will continue at Auckland City Council’s free live site, located at the Marine Events Centre (135 Halsey Street, Viaduct Harbour), with the final four games to be shown live on a big screen.

People are encouraged to come dressed in their adopted team’s colours, with a prize up for grabs for the best-dressed supporter. For those who get in quick there are also two $100 Prezzy cards (preloaded Visa cards) and 10 $25 Prezzy cards to win, as well as loads of giveaways including mini rugby balls, Visa drink bottles and Visa caps.

The indoor venue will open from 7am on game days, including:

• England vs France, Sunday, 14 October, kick off 8am

• South Africa vs Argentina, Monday, 15 October, kick off 8am

• bronze play-off, Saturday, 20 October, kick off 8am

• grand final, Sunday, 21 October, kick off 8am.

Mayor Dick Hubbard says All Blacks fans will be disappointed the team didn’t make it through to the latter stages, but that’s no reason to give up on the tournament.

“Despite the devastating loss, I hope rugby fans will take it on the chin and get themselves down to the live site to share their love of the game,” says Mr Hubbard.

“There are four great matches ahead of us and given the unpredictability of the quarter final results, we’re in for some fantastic rugby.

“After Paris, the next stop is Auckland. I hope the city continues to show its passion for rugby as we build up to being one of the host cities for the next world cup in 2011,” he says.

The Rugby World Cup 2007 live site is produced by Auckland City Council in partnership with Visa and TV3.

Visa is the longest serving premium sponsor of the Rugby World Cup, with involvement dating back to the 1995 tournament.
