Dunedin Rape: 35 Year Old To Be Charged

A 35 year old Hamilton born man will appear in the Dunedin District Court next week on charges of -

1. Attempted Murder

2. Sexual Violation and

3. Robbery

Following the rape and assault of a 21 year old Dunedin woman at a car-park near Canongate, in the early hours of Saturday morning, 24 November 2007.

Police working on this investigation spoke with the suspect on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and are now in a position to lay charges against him. The accused man is presently in custody.

The charging of this man does not conclude the investigation and inquiries are continuing over the coming days with a team of 22 Police staff working from Dunedin.

The Police wish to thank the public for their response for information to date. Their assistance and co-operation has played a significant role in bringing this investigation to a point where charges can be laid.
