Sick Tramper Winched out of Tararuas
Westpac Rescue Helicopter Winches Sick Tramper out of Tararua Rangers
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to a 20yr old female tramper who was feeling unwell this evening at 6pm. The tramper and two of her tramping party were just below Powell Hut in the Tararua Ranges.
The Westpac Helicopter responded to the scene with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board.
Due to the dense bush around the patient and her tramping party the Helicopter was unable to land. The Paramedic was winched down in a clearing 10m from the patient. The Paramedic and patient were then both winched up back into the Helicopter.
The patient was then flown back to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department.
"The tramping party she was with did a good job of helping the Helicopter crew in locating their position in dense bush by using a silver survival sheet to get the Pilots attention." say Logan Taylor Westpac Rescue Helicopter Crewmen
