Hauraki Gulf: Missing person/yacht concerns

Incident Type: Missing person/yacht concerns

Auckland Police have concerns for the safety and welfare of missing person; Christopher John MILNE, aged 33yrs. MILNE, a male Caucasian, and his yacht are missing from West Harbour Marina, Waitemata Harbour, Auckland, since 31/01/2008.

MILNE has failed to take his prescribed course of medication for the previous two days and it is feared that this has lead to deterioration in his behaviour.

MILNE, An inexperienced sailor, has previously announced an intention to sail 50 nautical miles off-shore. MILNE is not considered competent to be in charge of his own yacht.

MILNE is not familiar with any waters past Rangitoto Island and has no sea charts beyond that point. MILNE's yacht 'Intrepid' is a 16m sloop with a centre cockpit, cream coloured deck and silver hull, and it has a white inflatable hanging from the stern as well as a 50hp inboard motor.

Boat users in the Hauraki Gulf region are asked to keep a look-out for MILNE and his yacht and to report any sightings to Police or make contact via marine channels to Coast guard. The Police Maritime Unit as well as Coast Guard are actively involved in searching for the missing vessel. Messages are also being broadcast on marine channels
