Hastings District Council is hosting a forum to discuss practical steps to address sustainable development issues in the district.
The forum is being held on Saturday 29 March 2008 at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House.
Hastings District Mayor Lawrence Yule, who will open the forum, said it was important the day focussed on practical actions.
“This forum is not about debating whether global warming exists, it is about identifying real, concrete things we can put in place to ensure we are acting in a more sustainable way, as a council, as individuals and as a community,” said Mr Yule.
“It is not just about
the environment, but about ensuring we take a
development approach across all our activities: environmental, economic, social and cultural.”
Invitations have been sent out to 110 people, many of whom participated in the initial sustainability meeting held by Mayor Lawrence Yule in November 2007.
A further 70 places are being made available to the public. Those interested should obtain a registration form from Hastings District Council offices or online at www.hastingsdc.govt.nz. Due to the restricted spaces available, a ballot system may be used to select participants.
