Deaths On The Train

Deaths On The Train

New Zealand Police National News

13 June 2008

"From enquiries made to date, the Police are satisfied that the injuries suffered by the two young men occurred when the train passed under the footbridge just to the south of the Blighs Road railway crossing in Bryndwr", said Detective Sergeant John Rae today.

"This footbridge is not lit at night and someone travelling on the top of a railway carriage would likely not notice it.

The clearance between the underside of the footbridge and the top of a carriage is just less than 50cm."

An inspection of the undersides of the bridge has not located any forensic evidence that it was the point of impact but circumstances show that this is the most likely scene of the fatal injuries.

The post mortem for Nick UPRITCHARD was held today. The Police are speaking to the family concerning the post mortem for Mr HIGGINSON.
