Condolence book set up in memory of Sir Hamish Hay

CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE

A condolence book has been set up in the foyer of the Civic Offices in memory of Sir Hamish Hay.

Sir Hamish Hay died last night, aged 80. Sir Hamish was Christchurch’s longest serving mayor, holding the office for fifteen years (1974 to 1989).

The Mayor Bob Parker says Sir Hamish Hay played an important role in Christchurch’s history, and in many people’s lives. Mr Parker invites anyone who would like to come and sign the book to do so.

The book will be on display until Friday September 12.

Note: A previous media release said the Christchurch Town Hall opened in 1974. This is incorrect. The Town Hall opened in 1972. Apologies for the error.
