Hornby are asking the public for assistance after the aggravated robbery of a 16 year old male Korean International Cashmere High School student, just after 11pm Tuesday night 4 November 2008.

"This has been a vicious attack in a quiet suburban street, and appears to be totally unprovoked," says Detective Sergeant Scott Anderson. "This boy was attacked literally metres from the front gate of his homestay's house."

Detective Sergeant Anderson says that just after 11pm, residents in Studholme Street, Somerfield were alerted to a person in distress. When they went out to investigate they found the beaten student laying on the footpath and two male offenders running off towards Barrington Street.

Stolen from the student was his black LG cell phone.

The student was taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance; he is in a comfortable condition, with a broken nose and is still under observation.

Police are still trying to piece together the student's movements.

"The information we have at present is that he caught the bus from the central city to the Barrington Street area and was walking the short distance to his homestay's home," says Scott Anderson "The descriptions of the offenders are unfortunately vague."

Detective Sergeant Anderson is appealing to anyone who saw two males acting suspiciously around the Barrington/Studholme Street area at about 11pm last night or have any information on who is responsible for this cowardly attack. Any information can be reported to the Hornby Police station on 3441800.
