Police Investigate Case Of Injured Toddler

Kerikeri Police continue their investigation into the injuries sustained by a 15 month old boy on Friday evening.

The boy remains in a serious condition in Starship Hospital but is expected to survive the injuries.

The medical prognosis at this early stage is that the baby will be left legally blind and with some degree of permanent brain damage.

Child Youth & Family Services (CYFS) has taken official custody of the baby.

Police are conducting a comprehensive scene examination at the home address situated in Cobham Road, Kerikeri.

Police are also continuing their inquiries with the boy's family and other persons relevant to the investigation.

Police are still appealing for anybody who has knowledge of the circumstances surrounding this boy's injuries to contact the Kerikeri Police.
