Don’t count me out, says Mike Lee

Don’t count me out, says Mike Lee

14 September 2009

Do I believe that the ‘centre left’ will unite and field only one candidate Super City mayoral candidate as the New Zealand Herald reported today? Yes I do.

But do I necessarily think it must be Len Brown? No I do not.

I believe Auckland needs strong, inclusive, experienced leadership that will represent the whole of Auckland without fear or favour.

In the meantime, I am busy getting on with the real work for all of Auckland – working to ensure the rural areas of the region stay in the Super City, developing the waterfront, improving regional transport, and ensuring we are set up to make a success of the Rugby World Cup.

My position on the mayoralty has not changed. I will make my decision next year. When I have made it, I will announce it.

I will leave the premature electioneering to others. In the meantime, as Chairman of the ARC – the only regional leader Auckland has right now – I will get on with the real work I have been entrusted to do by voters across the region.
