Hutt City Mayor Welcomes Dowse to Petone Upgrade

Hutt City Mayor David Ogden has welcomed the completion of the Dowse to Petone upgrade.

He joined Transport Minister Steven Joyce and NZ Transport Authority chief executive Geoff Dangerfield to unveil a plaque marking the completion of the project at a ceremony at Percy Dowse Reserve this morning.

“The Dowse to Petone upgrade has been a significant project and it’s great to have it finished months ahead of schedule,” Mayor Ogden said.

“Hutt City residents have watched with great interest over the past two-and-a-half years as the project has taken shape.

“The improvements to this stretch of State Highway 2 will provide a range of benefits to Hutt City, from a new gateway and better access to the city, to improved safety and travel flow.

“Commuters will also enjoy improved park-and-ride facilities which I hope will encourage more people to use public transport.

“Congratulations to the NZTA, contractors and engineers on completing the project ahead of time and with such little disruption to motorists,” he said.
