Overnight hit and run aggravated robbery in Hamilton

Hamilton Police are concerned the victim of an alleged hit and run and aggravated robbery was left stunned lying on the side of the road with his pleas for help ignored by passing motorists.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said the 21-year-old man was walking home across Anglesea St about 11pm when he was hit by a vehicle, slightly south of the Caro St intersection.

"The occupants of the vehicle, believed to be two men and a woman, have then demanded the man's wallet and taken his dark green backpack which had been thrown a short distance away with the impact.

"The man managed to phone 111 on his cell phone. Fortunately he suffered only minor injuries but was left understandably stunned. What concerns us is that his cries for help went unanswered by a number of passing motorists in the area."

Mr Thornton said following last night's international cricket match the area was busier than normal as people made their way home from the match and detectives hoped someone may recall seeing the incident take place.
