Arrest in violent Hamilton aggravated robbery
Two men allegedly responsible for the violent
aggravated robbery of a Chartwell Bank late last year were
arrested by armed Police in Hamilton today.
Detective Sergeant Robbie Hermann of the Hamilton CIB said the arrests came about after weeks of solid investigative work.
"What set the 05 December aggravated robbery of the Chartwell KiwiBank apart from other incidents was the high level of violence used by the offenders who threatened customers and bank staff alike with a firearm.
"Today's arrests took place with the assistance of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad who secured a Shakespeare Ave and a Jebson Pl property for detectives allowing us to carry out our inquiries."
As a result of those inquiries a 21-year-old man was arrested at the first house while a 24-year-old man was arrested at the second address.
"In addition a firearm we believe may have been used in the robbery was recovered at the Shakespeare Ave property.
"Both men face charges of aggravated robbery and will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court, our inquiries are continuing and further arrests are possible," said Mr Hermann.
