Go Otago - on this Sunday

Go Otago is set to take place on Sunday, 21 March at the Otago – Taieri A & P Showgrounds from 10am to 4pm. The event celebrates Otago Anniversary Day by incorporating entertainment, exhibits and activities in a fun family day out. Go Otago offers the opportunity for the whole community to get involved and highlight the positive aspects of living and working in Otago.

Event co-ordinator, Victoria Bunton from Sequel Events, said “Go Otago is an event for the whole family to enjoy. It is an affordable and fun way to celebrate Otago Anniversary Day and there will be a diverse range of activities for children of all ages to enjoy.”

Go Otago 2010 is all about showcasing the region whether that is sport, entertainment, businesses, art and craft, food and beverage, tourism and much more! This provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about Otago talent, technology, enterprise and innovation. Go Otago is planned to evoke a sense of provincial pride and to establish a proper recognition of Otago Anniversary Day. Go Otago is an affordable day out for the whole family – entry is $5 for adults, $2 for children and under 5’s are free.

Highlights of the 2010 event include:
100+ stallholders – including crafts, food and large businesses
100+ local entertainers involved  these range from bands, dance groups and entertainers
An animal area where children can get up close to dogs, pigs, sheep, alpacas and much more
Bikes for Fun will be at the event with over 60 different bikes for all ages to try
Clifford the Big Red dog will be making appearances during the day
The Big Dig is set to take place at 3pm. Hundreds of tags will be buried in the 30m of sawdust which children must dig out to redeem prizes. Over 400 fantastic prizes have been donated by local businesses for this event including a family pass on the Monarch, a flying lesson from the Otago Aero Club and much much more!
There are many children’s rides such as Little Flick the miniature fire engine, Lil Puff a small train and horse rides.

HISTORY
In 1999, a group of Dunedin Citizens formed a Not for Profit Incorporated Trust (Go Otago Exhibition Society) whose aim was to initiate a biennial charitable event to uplift and inspire Otago people to celebrate Otago Anniversary Day. Go Otago is still run by a voluntary committee and the event co-ordinator.
