Waltz Jumps At Westfield

Press Release Waltz Jumps At Westfield

Westfield Glenfield Transformed into Winter Wonderland

They’re a great place to buy groceries, to find the perfect pair of shoes or to shop for a gift for a loved one. Now one popular Auckland shopping centre is the perfect place to ice skate.

From Wednesday 25 August, visitors to Westfield Glenfield will be able to lace up a pair of ice skates and glide around Freezefield – a 15 metre x 7 metre ice skating rink. Skaters will not only be experiencing the first ice rink inside a shopping centre – they’ll also be supporting a worthwhile cause.

For a gold coin donation, eager ice skaters will be able to enjoy an hour on the ice while supporting Home Care 4 Kids – a service providing home-based care for children aged 0 to 16 following discharge from hospital in the Waitemata health district (Rodney, Waitakere & the North Shore).

“We’re thrilled to be offering Aucklanders the opportunity to experience ice skating as they’ve never seen it before while supporting such an important cause.” says Westfield Glenfield Manager, Jaki Recchia. “Home Care 4 Kids not only provides families and whanau with additional support but ensures that children are given quality care in their homes.”

Home Care 4 Kids provides high level clinical care in the home so children require fewer visits to the hospital and instead spend more time in familiar surroundings. Home Care 4 Kids treatments include IV therapy, oncology medication, surgical wound care, nutrition needs, physiotherapy and monitoring with specialised medical devices. They also provide follow-up services for all premature babies discharged from Special Care Baby Units.

As well as care for children who have long term illnesses and disabilities, Home Care 4 Kids also offers palliative care and family support in the home. Equipment to support home-based care is expensive and not all currently supplied by the New Zealand health system.

Home Care 4 Kids is currently hoping to expand their loan bank of equipment to ensure sick children always have access to the post-hospital care they need.

“The amazing charitable support from Westfield Glenfield is enabling the team from Home Care 4 Kids to provide optimal quality of life and health for children” says Jane Hunter, Executive Director of the North Shore Hospital Foundation, the fundraiser for special health projects within the Waitemata district.

“Their support goes a long way in helping families towards self care of their children outside of hospitals and in their own homes. Westfield Glenfield’s support is essential in helping us build a better loan bank of equipment which helps alleviate a very stressful situation for families.”

Last year Westfield Glenfield selected the Home Care 4 Kids as their main beneficiary for fundraising events held at the shopping centre. Other events have included their Christmas Wrapping Project and Create a Memory for Mother’s Day.

Freezefield runs from Wednesday 25 August up and until Saturday 25 September, every day during shopping centre hours.
