Art Auction for North Shore Women’s Centre

Art Auction for North Shore Women’s Centre

North Shore Women’s Centre is holding a charity art auction at the opening night of its Inner Strength art exhibition at the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna on Thursday, September 2 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

Celebrating women and fundraising for the North Shore Women’s Centre, the exhibition runs until September 29, weekdays 9am until 5pm and Saturdays 10am until 4pm and features more than 50 works from 33 prominent NZ women artists.
All funds raised from the auction will go to the Women’s Centre, which provides a helping hand for any woman on the North Shore who needs it. Low cost and free services available at the centre include:
• Counselling
• referrals to budgeting services, parenting advice and other community agencies
• legal clinics
• access to family support workers
• job seeking, CV and healthy eating on a budget workshops
• free clothing exchange scheme
• Go Girl youth self-esteem holiday programmes
• Groups such as Age with Flair for over 60s, Creative Art, Tai chi, walking and Afrikaanse women’s groups.

All are welcome to attend the auction by registering with the centre on (09) 444 4618 or women.ctr@xtra.co.nz. Entry is free. Guests are also invited to become a friend of the centre, providing a financial contribution to keep the centre a thriving source of community support for women from all over the North Shore.

Centre Manager Kaira Marsh explains, “The North Women’s Centre is a safe and empowering place for women to go during times in their life when they need help or a hand up. They may be divorcing, scared or lonely, they may have lost their job, been bereaved or be going through another major life change and need some extra support. By the time they leave us, these women feel stronger, and ready to be good parents and contribute once more to their communities and workplaces.”

“We work with around 4,000 women each year of all ages, backgrounds and social groups. Through our fundraising we want to raise enough money to support another 4,000 women annually. This will be come increasingly important as our boundaries expend under the new supercity.”

Volunteers are welcome at the centre, particularly those with the time to make a regular commitment. The North Shore Women’s Centre is a non profit making organisation. For more information, please call in the centre
