Charitable Trust Building Affected By Earthquake

Charitable Trust Building Heavily Affected By Earthquake

The building of Community Energy Action, a Christchurch charitable trust and one of the largest installers of insulation and heating in Canterbury, is one of the many buildings in the Christchurch CBD heavily affected by the Canterbury earthquake. The trust is housed in a brick building which partially collapsed.

“We are glad the earthquake hit during the night when none of our 40 staff were in the building,” says Bede Martin, Chief Executive of Community Energy Action Charitable Trust.

Despite the damage to the building, Community Energy Action hopes to resume all operations, including assessments and insulation installations, later in the week. “We may need to search for alternative temporary accommodation if we cannot reopen in the current building,” says Mr Martin.

“The best way people can support our trust during this time, is by still purchasing their insulation from Community Energy Action so we can keep our team of installers fully employed and keep operating once we get reorganised. In this way the trust can keep supporting vulnerable people by providing them with additional assistance to keep their homes warm.”

Community Energy Action Charitable Trust installs insulation and heating for all incomes and uses its surpluses together with funding from various funders and sponsors to make the homes of vulnerable people on low incomes warmer. Its premises are located at 76 Moorhouse Ave at the edge of the CBD and outside the cordoned off central city.
