Check your neighbours – look out for each other

The people of Canterbury are responding really positively despite the stress of the repeated aftershocks say the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management.

“We are urging people to continue checking on their neighbours and to look out for each other,” said the Ministry’s Director, John Hamilton.

“It is now ‘day five’ since the quake hit but contact with neighbours should not stop. Because the situation continues to change and includes strong aftershocks, it is more important than ever for everyone to support each other in this difficult time.

“Friendly company can be a great help and support. A chance to talk, see a friendly face, have a cup of tea together can be a great reassurance at a time of ongoing stress and uncertainty.

“Aftershocks will continue to affect response and recovery operations, as well as the weather, so it’s really important for people to continue to pull together.”
