Bay of Plenty supports Canterbury

Bay of Plenty supports Canterbury with extra specialists

Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group has today supplied additional staff to Canterbury to assist with the earthquake recovery effort.

Earlier this week, the region sent the Bay of Plenty CDEM Group Recovery Manager Terry Wynyard to Canterbury and today the CDEM Manager Greg Wilson is flying in to assist. Additionally, a team of five building inspectors from around the region are heading to Canterbury to lend vital support to the teams on the ground.

Bay of Plenty CDEM Group Controller Warwick Murray said that they had been happy to be able to offer assistance to the Canterbury team including senior CDEM management and building inspection specialists.

“It is likely that we will be sending more people as we wait to receive further requests from the National Crisis Management Centre,” Mr Murray said.

The Bay of Plenty CDEM team are currently collating a list of additional staff and other resources that could be made available. This will be sent to the National Crisis Management Centre who coordinate all offers of assistance from around the county.
