Christchurch 9-11 Ceremony
The annual Christchurch 9-11 ceremony marking the death of the 343 New York firefighters, killed when the twin towers of the World Trade Centre collapsed will still be held tomorrow (Saturday) but will be very brief.
The public event will be attended by a handful of city firefighters who will join members of the public and off duty volunteers and staff. They will be joined by Acting National Commander of the Fire Service Paul McGill who will take the opportunity to acknowledge the service of local firefighters to the public of Canterbury following last week’s earthquake.
Mr McGill is in Canterbury to visit brigades and fire stations to hear how staff and volunteers are faring and discuss provisions for their ongoing welfare.
The public event is held at the Firefighters Reserve on the corner of Madras and Kilmore Streets at 11am on Saturday.
