Celebrating Christmas at DCM

Celebrating Christmas at DCM

Christmas is just around the corner, and here at Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) we are doing a few extra things to make the season special for those who often miss out.

Stephanie McIntyre, director of DCM, says “We want to make Christmas special for our service users. Many are not in contact with their families and so Christmas can be a sad and lonely time. Some also lack the financial ability to buy themselves anything special, and so Christmas ends up being just another day.”

DCM staff are currently working hard to pack over 100 Christmas parcels. The parcels contain special treats such as Christmas cake, chocolate biscuits and candy canes as well as nutritious meal items like corned beef, tinned fruit, tinned vegetables and rice meals. We’ve even put fancy toiletries in there as well!

The Christmas parcels will be given out to all service users and those who come into our Foodbank throughout next week.

We’re not stopping there though – we will be holding a Christmas BBQ on Friday 17 December, at 12 noon, for all to attend and celebrate the season with DCM staff and other members of the community.

“Many of us take for granted the sense of being part of a family and the festivities of Christmas. At DCM, we want people to feel like they are part of our family and try make Christmas special for them”, says Stephanie.
