IPC Athletics World Champs starts tomorrow

Top paralympic athletes will be striving for gold and qualification in Christchurch from tomorrow in the run up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games

The 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships gets underway at QEII Park Recreation and Sport Centre on Saturday morning following the convergence of paralympic athletes from around the world in Christchurch over the past week.

The 10-day championships are also a qualifying event for the London 2012 Paralympic Games and will be attended by top elite athletes from around the world. Nearly 1100 athletes from 80 countries, plus 900 officials will be in Christchurch for the event.

It is estimated that the IPC Athletics World Championships will bring approximately $12 million dollars into the Christchurch economy through competitors, visitors and supporters coming to the event.
