Message from the Mayor of Christchurch, Bob
Parker
In the past weeks we have hosted an elite gathering of athletes who not only demonstrated their determination and courage, but have inspired us considerably with what they have achieved. They are living models for each and every one of us for what can be accomplished when one sets one’s mind to it.
My congratulations to all athletes at the IPC Championship – without a doubt all of you are winners. The new world records and the individual medal tallies are very impressive and you have much to be proud of.
We hope you have enjoyed your stay in our beautiful city. Christchurch is one of the finest places in the world and we have achieved this by continuously thinking about what the city is, what the city wants to be, and how it wants to get there.
The cultural, sporting or economic activities that we host promotes the city’s identity – an identity firmly based on a future perspective while remaining rooted in the history of the city.
I take this opportunity to thank all the athletes, the organisers of the Championship and the people of the Christchurch for a week of great happenings and greater friendship.
