Air New Zealand’s newest aircraft makes flying visit to Wellington

Wellingtonians will get their first chance to see Air New Zealand’s brand new Boeing 777-300ER when it touches down at Wellington Airport tomorrow as part of a special visit to the capital city.

The 777-300 heralds a new era in long haul flying for Air New Zealand passengers with the unique Kiwi designed lie-flat Economy Skycouch, brand new Premium Economy seating and enhanced Business Premier experience. The aircraft will service the Auckland-Los Angeles-London route from April.

Air New Zealand’s GM Airline Operations Captain David Morgan says, “At 74 metres long the B777-300ER is the longest Air New Zealand aircraft to land at Wellington Airport. We can’t operate the aircraft into Wellington commercially with a full passenger and freight payload, but on this occasion we’re able to make a special visit because the aircraft will be virtually empty with only essential staff on board.”

The new 777-300 is scheduled to touch down at 1045 and will depart again at 1530. While on the ground Air New Zealand will be hosting invited guests on board. Although the general public will not have access to the interior, the landing and take off will be visible from the usual vantage points around the airport perimeter and it will be positioned at a gate which allows good views from inside the domestic terminal.
