More Questions asked about Auckland Council spending

More Questions being asked about Auckland Council spending

Reeling from the $3.4 million debacle over the Maori Advisory Board, the new Auckland Council seems to be out of control in many areas of spending ratepayers’ money. The following 6 questions are just the tip of the iceberg and need answering:

1.  Why are salaried council staff attending evening meetings of the 21 local boards being paid $235 overtime each for their attendance…..over and above their inflated salaries? Didn't happen under the former councils.

2.  Why are many of the local boards being provided lavish meals at their meetings, while other responsible boards have declined this unnecessary cost to ratepayers?

3.  Why have Councillors and Local Board members been issued top of the range laptop computers worth $3,000 - $4,000 each, (with broadband connections) when much cheaper models would have done the job?

4.  Why are private media consultants, incl some of the election campaign advisers, being employed to service the Local Boards, usually one expensive media person for every three boards…..to help send out the “Spin”?

5.  Why have some Local Boards cancelled their first meetings of the year because they didn’t have enough business to go on the agenda? Extraordinary when there is so much to be done and 'pulled together'.

6.  Why have Local Boards had many hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on their office fit-outs…offices which were perfectly adequate for the previous councils?
