Rangiora Earthquake Express - Urgent help needed!

A group of concerned Rangiora volunteers has decided to assist the residents of Christchurch by starting a series of daily runs into the Christchurch suburbs most desperately in need of water and other essential supplies.

The Rangiora Earthquake Express is asking the residents of Rangiora to search their households for usable water containers that can be sealed, to sanitise those containers, fill them with Rangiora tap water, and then drop them off to the Rangiora Earthquake Express collection point in the car park of Chevier Centre (next to the Catholic Church), 41 Victoria Street, Rangiora, from 10:30am onwards this morning.

Alternately people can simply drop off water containers, with lids, at the same location, to be sanitised and filled with water.

The Rangiora Earthquake Express team will take these bottles of water, by the trailer load, into the Christchurch suburbs where water is most desperately needed.

The organisers of the Rangiora Earthquake Express will also take any appropriate food items (such as bread, canned food, baking, or even cooked meals, etc) that Rangiora residents may wish to donate to residents in Christchurch.

They would simply ask that the food items be appropriately sealed in containers so that they can transported in plastic storage boxes on trailers, etc.

If the supply of these essential items is great enough then the Rangiora Earthquake Express will also be seeking volunteers with trailers to assist in the runs to and from Christchurch, as well as people to help with collection and packing of items for transport, etc.

Later today the Rangiora Earthquake Express is also hoping to take BBQ’s and sausages into the suburbs to offer a free BBQ for Christchurch residents.

One of the organisers, Brendan Malone, says that the Rangiora Earthquake Express will continue making runs to and from the city as long as the residents of Rangiora are willing to donate food and water for delivery.

Volunteers who are keen to help out are asked to check the Rangiora Earthquake Express page on Facebook for regular updates and advice on the assistance that is needed, etc.
